The Team

Owner / Senior Pet Care Executive

“I have had a passion for animals for as long as I can remember from as far back as when I was a young girl to today, ranging from my first Guinea Pig to my first horse. I just have an affinity with animals and things just come naturally to me when handling and dealing with them”

Clair founded wagNwalkies in 2013 after a successful career in IT left her feeling that there was a lot more to life than servers, issue resolution and upgrades! Following her dream Clair and her husband Les have built up a highly successful business that combines their two true loves; dogs and the great outdoors. Delivering a first class commercial service whilst keeping the welfare of animals as the focus of their attention, Clair and Les literally love what they do for a living now.

Delivering a truly unique concept and service to the area they have raised the bar for pet care and pride themselves on giving back to the pet owning community. Clair and husband Les as creators and chief organisers of the annual ‘Barky Malarky Charity Dog Show’ Clair & Les’ two messages are; all dogs are equal (be it a beautiful pedigree or quirky mixture) and that everyone can have fun with their pet. Encouraging local businesses and schools to become involved  in spreading the messages Barky Malarky has grown to become a highly popular event on the Basingstoke social calendar.

Clair and Les have been lucky to care for many animals in their time and they currently share their lives with two gorgeous rescue dogs (Harley and Lulu), two cats, one horse and a host of freshwater fish. Having competed to a high level within both Show Jumping and Eventing, Clair now only rides for pleasure but is just as happy doing the ‘dirty jobs’ and spending time with her equine friends as she is actually riding. Ask Clair what she loves the most though and the answer is immediate, meeting all the new wagNwalkies guests of course!!

Clair and all the staff are POLICE CHECKED and SECURITY VETTED, indeed Les, Clairs husband spent twenty one years as an armed Police Officer before jointly creating the wagNwalkies business with Clair, this brings peace of mind that not only are your pets in safe hands but the integrity of your property is too.

Daycare Manager

As a true all rounder, it would probably be quicker to list the things Alex isn’t experienced in!

Ales has full pet first aid training, extensive kennel experience, hands on knowledge of both domestic pets and rural farm animals (including lambing, grooming, feeding, veterinary care) and a hands on, in at the deep end attitude – Alex is the whole package.

With a Distinction in Level 3 Animal Management and full Canine First Aid training, Alex is the ultimate country lover. In a previous life Alex spent her days behind a till and serving customers in a retail environment but the lure of the outside was too strong, and she knew her heart lay with dogs. Starting out at wNw as a helper on her days off Alex soon joined us officially as a Pet Care Executive, and we were pleased to announce her promotion to Daycare Manager after our relocation back in early 2018.

Having grown up with large dogs (including Akita’s, Labradors and Huskies) she has a total respect for breeds of all sizes but an affinity with the larger of our guests. Alex revels in the day to day running of The Retreat and loves that every day is different and gives the opportunity to learn new. In her own words “ every dog is special to us at W&W – I wouldn’t have it any other way!”

Alex loves being outdoors getting mucky and muddy and unsurprisingly, the animals love her!

Senior Dog Groomer

Bringing over 8 years of hands on grooming experience and a lifetime of dog ownership, Fiona is a great addition to the wag’N’walkies crew.
There is a special place in her heart for Cocker Spaniels, owning a gorgeous blue roan herself, but Fiona looks forward to pampering dogs of all shapes and sizes now she has joined the team. As Fiona trained with the best at Merrist Wood College she is highly capable and has the confidence to reassure any client that they are in safe hands.
All dogs can be nervous whilst being groomed and Fiona knows just how to put them at ease. The wag’N’walkies dogs love Fiona and we are sure you will too!

Pet Care Executive

“Having enjoyed my work experience with wagNwalkies I stayed in touch with Clair and the team during the remainder of my study and happy to be included in the on growing development of wagNwalkies as my first stepping stone into a career of working with Animals”

Studying for her Level 3 Diploma in Animal Management with hands on canine care, Emma is a true professional when it comes to animals. With her Level 2 Distinction in Animal Care under her belt and a period of voluntary work experience working alongside the Basingstoke Dog Warden, the sky is the limit when it comes to her knowledge of dogs.

Her love and experience of dogs of all shapes, sizes, breed and history shines through and she has the confidence to help any owner with both care and training advice. Emma has her own rescue dog and loves nothing more than to spend quality 1-on1 time working on Agility Training and building up the bond between dog and human. With her vast experience and academic training, Emma knows that every dog is different and needs to receive care specific to that individual. She is a welcome addition to the wagNwalkies family!

Allsorts of Paws

Jo from “ALLSORTS OF PAWS” is a great addition to the team although she has her own business she is an integral part of the wagNwalkies team also!

“I enjoy every minute with all the wagNwalkies clients, both the canine and human. Working with wagNwalkies enables me to indulge and share my life passion which is Natural Animal Care & Well Being. Its without a doubt my dream job”

Jo is the definition of an animal lover. With extensive nursing experience and a successful career as a holistic animal behaviourist, qualified in natural dog training techniques Jo positively exudes care. With an affinity for practically every animal (worms need not apply!) Jo has yet to meet a pet she didn’t love.

Understanding the complex and often rapidly changing moods of our cared for animals, Jo operates as a true professional and ensures that not only are they having fun but that they are also stimulated, feel safe and always secure in our care. Clients often ask Jo’s advice and look to her for guidance when it comes to animal diet, behaviour and natural healing and we are so lucky to have her as an integral part of the team. Jo runs our inhouse training, and also runs workshops for dog owners and professionals alike.

Curious Canines has joined forces with us part time, Karyn is almost too qualified and experienced!
Hailing originally from New Zealand and based permanently here in Hampshire she loves the country life. Karyn has a fondness for the slightly naughty, cheeky members of the wagNwalkies family and with her background in training and behaviour therapy; they love her too. Having spent 3 years with the NZ Border Force as a sniffer dog handler before moving to the UK to establish and run a Working Dogs Dept for Battersea Dogs Home ( allowing rescue dogs to go on to have fulfilling assistance careers), Karyn also spent 10 years training sniffer dogs. As you can imagine Karyn’s training credentials and abilities are awesome!!
Within her part time remit Karyn is loving the ability to share her knowledge and runs workshops as well as 1-1 training courses and walks.

Junior Pet Care Assistant

When Gracie joined us for work experience as part of a school placement, we just knew she was one of us!

She loves all our 4-legged guests and can always be relied on to snuggle, play and care for our beloved animals. With a caring, nurturing nature and bundles of energy Gracie has now officially joined the team for Saturday Daycare duties. We can’t wait to watch as she grows in confidence and rises through the ranks.
